Earlier today, news flooded out that en employee of Rocketown, a music venue in Nashville, TN, was fired for wearing a Hostage Calm “I Support Same-Sex Marriage” shirt to work. A write-up from the owner of the venue to the now-fired employee stating his “offenses” can now be seen below by clicking “Read More.”
There’s a good chance I’m going to get blasted for this and maybe rightly so. However, RCKTWN being a Christian based organization has to stand up for their values. I am all about loving people. I think that is the most basic way to show that you are a Christian. However, our first commandment as followers is to love God “with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30, ESV). Loving God with your whole self means that you follow his commandments, and stand for what he stands for, even if that causes suffering.
So there’s my take, as a Christian who both loves this venue and loves this guy, although I have never met him. I’m hoping that there is some productive discussion that comes through this situation rather than hate, which is what everyone is up in arms about in the first place.
